Generic Technology Platforms
Barr has traditionally
developed generic pharmaceuticals in tablet, capsule and powder forms. Since 2004, the Company has devoted significant research
and development resources to expanding dosage forms and delivery technologies for its generic products. Through its acquisition
of PLIVA, the Company has the internal capability to develop, manufacture and market generic pharmaceuticals in various dosage
forms, including tablets and capsules, creams, injectables, and ointments. Third-party relationships provide access to additional
drug delivery systems, such as nasal sprays, patches and sterile ophthalmics.
The Company also develops and manufactures active pharmaceutical ingredients
(APIs), primarily for internal use. At the end of 2007, the Company manufactured 23 different APIs for use in pharmaceuticals at
our facilities located in Croatia and the Czech Republic. The ability to produce APIs for internal use may provide the Company
with a strategic advantage over competitors that lack this ability.
